Network Configuration with Plug-and-Play Components

چکیده
The installation and configuration of a new network component is a difficult task due to the heterogeneous nature of today’s telecommunication networks. This task requires substantial effort and extensive expertise on the part of the network administrator because he has to set hardware and software attributes for a variety of such components to make them work together. We propose a solution to this problem, i.e. to automate the installation and configuration process of new component using the plug-and-play concept. We have taken the idea of plug-and-play hardware from modern operating systems to plug-and-play network components in the Network Management domain. A plug-and-play network component is defined as a component that is capable of configuring both itself and other cooperating components in a network without human intervention. Several plug-and-play schemes are possible but we have implemented a scheme based on mobile agents. This paper describes the plug-and-play concept for network components and focuses on an implementation of the plugand-play scheme that is based on mobile agent technology. The paper also addresses the related issues and assumptions and concludes with a brief evaluation of the scheme.

Distributed computing for plug-and-play network service configuration
Configuration of network services is a difficult problem requiring considerable human involvement. As the peripheral configuration of PCs has been made easier through plug-andplay hardware, service configuration can be facilitated by defining PnP services for networks. Moreover, the recent developments in the area of distributed computing technologies, such as CORBA, Mobile Agents, and Jini, an...
متن کاملNetwork Service Configuration with Jini: A Plug-and-Play Approach
The configuration of network services is a hard problem requiring considerable human involvement. Recently, the hardware configuration of a personal computer has been simplified by the Plug and Play specification and the addition of the universal serial bus. The Java language has facilitated the movement of code from device to device, and most recently, the addition of Jini has provided a frame...
متن کاملNew Node Integration in TTP/A Networks
The industry calls for fieldbus architectures that allow transducer nodes to be connected into a network in a true “plug and play” fashion. A plug and play configuration consists of at least three tasks: to identify the new nodes, to obtain the documentation, and to download the configuration. This paper deals with node identification and configuration programming for the TTP/A fieldbus. We pre...

متن کاملPreparing Software Components for Integration
Current industrial models for software components have made component based software engineering a practical reality. However, these models are limited in the sense that their support for the specification of component interfaces primarily deals with syntactic issues. As such, component mismatch remains a critical stumbling block in component based software engineering: components may syntctica...
